Testing a Survey

Updated over a week ago

After designing, previewing, and editing a survey, it's good practice to test it before sending it to your members and guests to ensure it behaves as you want it to.

In this article, we will discuss how to test a survey.

Testing a Survey:

If you wish to test the survey, email it to yourself. After testing, you can edit the survey, even if you have entered answers. Note: To edit a tested survey, you must clear the survey answers, so do not send it to members.

Before sending a test email, set up the following:

  • Create a Fake Member Profile: When creating the profile, add your name, email, and phone number at a minimum.

Once you have a fake member profile, you can send the survey to yourself by doing the following:

  1. Go to Communication > Surveys.

  2. Click the "Actions" dropdown for the survey you want to test and click "Send by email."

  3. Select the option to send an email to "Specific Member..." (as shown below) and select only the fake member profile.

  4. Make any additional adjustments to the email.

  5. Click "Send Survey."

  6. Find the email and click the survey link.

  7. Complete the survey.

  8. View the results.

    1. Go to Communication > Survey.

    2. Select the "Actions" dropdown.

    3. Click "View Results.

At this point, you have tested your survey and viewed the results for accuracy.

Editing a Survey after Testing:

After testing your survey, if you need to make edits to question answers, you must clear the survey results before making edits. Note: Do this cautiously, as all results will be cleared from the survey. If you have sent this to members who have already answered the survey, we suggest you do not clear the results.

To clear the results and edit a survey, follow these directions:

  1. Go to Communication > Surveys.

  2. Click the "Actions" dropdown for the survey you want to edit and click "Clear Answers" (as shown below). Note: Do not clear answers if you have sent this to members who have responded to the survey, as you will lose results.

  3. In the popup, click the "Click Here" to download a spreadsheet containing the current answer (as shown below).

  4. Click "Clear Answers."

  5. Click the "Actions" dropdown for the same survey you want to edit and click "Edit."

  6. Make the Necessary Edits.

  7. Click "Save" to apply the edits.
