How can I send a targeted text message campaign?

Q: I am running a merchandise promotion and would like to send targeted text messages to specific members in the member roster based on a particular custom field response. How can I do this?

A: In the Text Message Center, you can send bulk text messages to specific members based on a particular response in a custom field using the "Select by" option. This would be particularly useful if you were running a Titleist Golf Ball promotion, for example. If you have a custom field that has captured your member's preferred golf ball (e.g., Titleist, Callaway, TaylorMade), you can filter the members that receive a text message to only be those that have a response of Titleist in that field.

To send these targeted text message campaigns, follow these instructions:

  1. Go to Communications > Text Messages > Send Bulk Text Message.

  2. Select the recipients using the option "Select by..."

  3. Set available dropdowns:

    1. Include/Exclude: Do you want to include the particular members in this filter or exclude them.

    2. Members with "Please select a custom field": Set the specific custom field to filter by (e.g., Gender, Pref. Ball, etc.).

    3. Equal to "Please select value": Set the value. The values will be determined by the available response in the custom field.

  4. Click "Add" and then "Save."

  5. Repeat steps 3 & 4 to include any additional members by a specific filter.

  6. Enter content into the body of the text message using the available text editor. You can insert data fields (available to the right) anywhere in the message.

  7. Click "Refresh Preview" to preview the message before sending it. Make any additional adjustments as necessary.

  8. Click "Send."
